Quality assurance, clinical governance, audit and oversight is one of Sparta Health’s core values and underpins all the services that we provide to our Customers.  It is perhaps, best put as having the right people in place, doing the right things in a timely and effective fashion and if things do go wrong, being in a position to attend to it immediately.

Our Clinical Advisory Team (CAT) provide support to our management team with regard to oversight and audit on our service design and delivery.  The CAT fully embrace the interdisciplinary and biopsychosocial philosophy and model we have developed and endorse our therapy-led evidence based approach to the management and assessment of treatment programmes and rehabilitation pathways.

Meet the Clinical Advisory Team

Sparta Health’s CAT is a highly qualified and influential team made up of Occupational Health Physician, Dr Les Smith; Chartered Psychologist, Dr Sandi Mann and Physiotherapist Gordon Bosworth.  Together they provide us not only with quality assurance and clinical governance oversight but equally as important with expert input, insight and opinion on activities involving service design, research and medical developments.

 

Dr Les Smith
MBChB FFOMI MRCGP MFOM MIOSH CAvMed

Dr Les Smith is Member of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine, an accredited specialist and consultant in occupational medicine, a Fellow of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine (Royal College of Physicians Ireland) and a Chartered Member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health. He has a background in General Practice and is a Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners

He was a Senior Medical Officer in the Royal Air Force in the UK and overseas. He also worked as a consultant family physician in Saudi Arabia where he developed modern primary care systems and training for Saudi Arabian doctors in general practice and occupational health.

His previous positions include Chief Medical Officer ScottishPower Group; Head of Employee Health Services Pfizer; UK Medical Adviser to Eon UK; Consultant Occupational Health Physician for Shell UK and is currently the Medical Adviser to the States of Guernsey Social Security advising on the Supporting Occupational Health and Wellbeing Project.

For over 25 years his main specialist expertise has been in developing modern holistic occupational health and well-being strategies and programmes and is credited for his wellbeing and vocational rehabilitation model, taking into account the physical, social, economic, environmental and in particular the psychological aspects affecting staff wellbeing, productivity and performance at work. 

Dr Sandi Mann
BSc MSc PhD

Dr Sandi Mann is a highly experienced Chartered Psychologist with over 15 years’ experience working in the NHS and private sector.

Sandi, described by her peers as a one of the most practical experts in her field, has a Doctorate in Psychology, Masters in Organisational Psychology, BSc in Psychology and Diploma in CBT.

Sandi is an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society and an Accredited EMDR Practitioner and member of the EMDR Association UK and Ireland. Sandi’s specialisms include panic, phobias, anxiety conditions, OCD, PTSD and depression.

Sandi has published (Hodder & Stoughton) various self-help psychology books; is a columnist for the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) journal Counselling at Work and is an invited speaker at conferences across the UK. She appears regularly in the media as an expert psychologist and is the Module Leader for MSc Applied Clinical Psychology and BSc Clinical Psychology at the University of Central Lancashire.

Gordon Bosworth

Gordon spent his formative years in the Royal Air Force (1976-1992) as a Physical Education Officer where he trained as a Physiotherapist and studied post grad with Osteopaths and Chiropractors as well as attending numerous courses. After several tours of duty on various units including Rehabilitation Units Headley Court and Chessington he left the RAF and became Head of Rehabilitation at the Police Rehab Centre in Goring on Thames and at the same time moved into Private Practice.

He has been the Senior Governing Body Physiotherapist to the British Bobsleigh and Bob-Skeleton Team (1996-2006 including 4 years as Performance Director) and was a member of the Great Britain Teams at the Winter Olympic Games in Nagano (1998), Japan, Salt Lake City (2002), USA and Torino, Italy (2006).

He was appointed Medical Lead for the Canadian Speed Skating Team ( Long & Short Track) at the Vancouver (2010) Olympic Games and as Chief Physiotherapist to United Kingdom Athletics/British Athletics at the London Olympic Games (2012). He attended Sochi Holding Camp 2014 with Canada and was a member of the Canadian Medical Team for the Games in South Korea 2018.

Gordon has been involved in Sport for most of his life and in Elite Sport since 1992. Specialising in Performance related issues. He has acted as a Consultant to several Professional football teams including Bolton Wanderers FC, Liverpool FC, Wigan FC, Derby County FC, Queens Park Rangers FC,Sunderland AFC,Harlequins and Cornish Pirates Rugby Teams. He is currently working with London Irish RFC.

Gordon does not just treat elite sportsmen and women, he applies his skills and knowledge to the general population regardless of age or sporting interest. He also integrates with and works in conjunction with professionals from all disciplines which makes for a true multidisciplinary, holistic approach to injury management.
